What is Aptos (APT)?
Aptos is a Level 1 Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain that enables mass web3 adoption and enables the dApps ecosystem to solve real user problems.
Aptos was created by former Meta employees Mo Sheikh, who is now CEO, and Avery Ching, who serves as the company's CTO.
How does it work?
Launching its core network on Oct. 18, 2022, Aptos was the first blockchain to debut on Move technology. The core network now uses the fourth version of AptosBFT, which runs on the agreed-upon Byzantine Failover Protocol (BFT). However, the company is already working on version 5 of AptosBFT.
Aptos is built using Move, a new smart contract programming language. New use cases can be implemented through upgradability and configurability, and the horizontal scalability of bandwidth - thanks to the built-in segmentation feature - provides a better user experience.
The main feature of Aptos is its high transaction throughput - over 150,000 tps. This is possible due to the parallel execution mechanism (Block-STM). All transactions are processed simultaneously and subsequently confirmed.
Aptos uses two consensus protocols, Proof-of-Stake and AptosBFT.
AptosBFT is a consensus algorithm based on the HotStuff protocol. Despite the many technical nuances involved in securing the network, the algorithm automatically updates leader rotations to correct for unresponsive validators without human intervention. "BFT'' stands for "Byzantine Fault-Tolerant," which ensures that the network will function normally, even if some of its members go offline or become malicious.
